Rooibos Tea Relies on SolarWorld

SOLAR POWER SYSTEMS WITH 1 MEGAWATT ON WAREHOUSES COMPLETETD

1,890 additional solar modules from SolarWorld are now producing clean solar power on warehouses of the world market leader Rooibos Ltd. in Clanwilliam, South Africa. Expanding the system to 1 MW the tea company can provide itself almost exclusively with self-generated solar electricity and reduce its external power requirements significantly. This will save up to 150,000 tons of CO2each year by buying less conventional electricity. „Rooibos Ltd. can now offer customers a product with a lower environmental footprint. This is important because agricultural exporters are encouraged by their customers in the EU and the US to capture and lower their greenhouse gas emissions, „said Kobus Engelbrecht, CEO of SolarWorld partner African Technical Innovations, who was responsible for planning and installation of the system.

A clear trend toward direct consumption of solar power has long been observed in South Africa. In particular, agricultural enterprises increasingly rely on solar self-sufficiency with SolarWorld, as well as renowned companies such as Ceres Fruit Growers, Stellenpak Fruit Packers, Bo-Radyn Boerdery (Pty) Ltd and Bosman Family Vineyards. Gregor Küpper, CEO of SolarWorld Africa: „SolarWorld is proud to cooperate with companies of this caliber who have made it their mission to protect the use of renewable energy, the environment and improving their environmental footprint.“

In South Africa, SolarWorld is the most known manufacturer of solar power technology, especially for its projects for solar self-sufficiency. Here, the group sets itself apart from its competitors with long lasting quality products and precisely coordinated systems.
